Blackball Pool - 2015 EBPF National Tour Finals
30th & 31st May 2015 / Club 147, Leicester, England
Neil Raybone walked away with the 2015 English Blackball Pool Federation (EBPF) National Tour Singles title after a long days play at the fantastic Club 147 in Leicester, England
As part of the grand finals weekend, entrants were invited from various regional ranking lists after a number of local qualifying heats. 58 finalists began their campaign on the Sunday morning.
But it was IPA Tour professional and former WEPF World Master Raybone who would take the honours and £750 in prize money.
Neil would qualify second from his round robin group behind Ben Rowland, but made light work in dispatching Barry Kelly and Nick Hawkins in the opening KO rounds.
He then beat the dangerous Jeremy Hooper 5-2 in the last 8 before ending the hopes of west country cueist Dave Cryer 6-2 to make yet another final.
There he faced Mike Flanagan, who was trying to secure a unique double having won the Seniors event the day before.
It’s possible fatigue played a part in the late night final, with the more youthful Raybone finishing the job with a 6-3 success.
24 hours earlier in the Seniors discipline Flanagan was the best of the 30 strong select field.
In a draining title deciding clash, Flanagan ousted Bristolian Nick Hawkins 6-4 to claim the trophy and £500.
In the Women’s section, Salli Merola eked out Vicki Mills 4-3 in a last ball epic, whilst Jared Cronje beat fellow talent Rowland 5-2 to take honours in the Youth competition.
