Amateur Snooker - 2015 EBSA Play-Offs
14th-16th April 2015, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield, England
ENGLISH DUO SEAL EBSA PLAY-OFF GLORY
Sanderson Lam and Martin O’Donnell came through the end of season EBSA (European Billiards and Snooker Association) play-offs to claim World Snooker Professional Tour Cards for the 2015/16 & 2016/17 seasons.
Being held alongside the Betfred World Championship qualifiers at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, the top 16 ranked amateurs from this campaigns European Tour order of merit played in a knockout event down to 2 qualifiers..
Lam, already a familiar figure around top tier competition, finally secured full time status on the WS circuit with victory over Irelands Thomas Dowling 4-2. He had previously survived deciding frame thrillers against Scotland’s Marc J Davis and Gareth Allen of Wales.
O’Donnell who is a former English Amateur Champion, makes a quick return to the highest ranks of snooker having previously been professional for the 2013/14 circuit.
He started his journey back with a comfortable 4-0 win over Josh Boileau; but had to sweat in beating both Paul Davison and Jamie Rhys Clarke to come through.
Both players have some considerable experience competing and mixing with the sports’ top stars, and I would expect the pair to fair well over their 2 year stints.
