It was a great SEA Games for Malaysia who picked up Gold medals in both of the Snooker disciplines.

2014 Asian Snooker Champion and current professional Thor Chuan Leong won the individual event.

It was a relatively disappointing showing for traditional powerhouse Thailand, who only picked up a silver from both competitions; it was the first time ever that the country had never won a snooker gold at the SEA Games.

Thailand did win a gold in the English Billiards team event, but that did not meet their minimum expectations of two golds over the various cue sports. As a consequence, Thai official Sadka Rattanasuban resigned afterwards.
