Blackball Rules English 8 Ball Pool - 2016 IPA World Series (Malta / Gibraltar Qualifiers)
16th & 17th January 2016 / Reading Pool and Snooker Club, Reading, England
THE INNOVATIVE WORLD SERIES GETS UNDERWAY
The World Series in association with Ivan Simonis is an exciting new concept from the International Professional Pool Players Association (IPA), giving both Professional and Amateur players the opportunities to play in new, upcoming and established Blackball playing countries. It is an opportunity to showcase the talents of the IPA to a new audience, helping raise the profile of the sport, players and the IPA.
Last weekend the IPA held the qualifiers for two of their first three World Series events later on in the year at the Reading Pool and Snooker Club.
On each of the separate days there would be a quartet of professionals coming through to make the venue stages, joined by an amateur winner who will side with the qualified pros in a team challenge event against the various host nation opposition.
Places for the Malta leg of the tour were up for grabs on the Saturday.
The professionals who survived the double elimination process were English pairing of current IPA World Seniors Champion Jason Twist and Marc Farnsworth, Northern Ireland’s Ronan McCarthy and Simon Ward of Wales.
In the separate amateur qualification competition, Leroy Clarke remained unbeaten to book his flights for the Valletta based event between the 16th-18th September.
Entry for Gibraltar was next on the agenda during Sunday’s action with Clint I’Anson (England) and Craig Marsh (Wales) making the grade, alongside McCarthy and Ward, who made it a lucrative double from their weekend’s work.
Chris Bowron will be the IPA amateur representative, he too ran the gauntlet without defeat, for the staging at the 4star O’Callaghans Eliott Hotel between 25th-27th March.
Whilst in each nation, the four remaining professional semi-finalists will play down to a champion.
As well as this, and the 5 person team challenge, there will be a Malta / Gibraltar Singles Open and a ‘Last Man Standing’ tournament too.
Next month (20th & 21st February) the 147 Sports Bar in Leeds will host the qualifiers for South Africa and Southern Ireland.
