GILCHRIST DETHRONES CAUSIER IN EDINBURGH
Peter Gilchrist beat outgoing champion Dave Causier in the final to become the 2017 LiteTask Scottish Open Billiards Champion this past weekend.
Gilchrist, who represents Singapore, had no concerns in coming through his round robin after winning all three of his fixtures with comfortable margins.
He faced a sterner test in the Last 16 when beating Robert Marshall 505-300. He then went on to beat Chris Taylor 592-313 in the Quarter-Finals and Jonathan Marwood 789-220 in the Last 4.
Causier, who won the LiteTask British Open at the start of December, advanced to the final without losing a match too. He claimed his knockout matches with distinct ease; the winning margin being at least 500 points in each match.
The final lived up to its potential, though. In a thrilling contest, Gilchrist came out the champion with a 566-482 victory; Causier remained unfinished on a break of 93 when time ran out.
This would be Gilchrist's second consecutive success on the World Billiards circuit after winning the LiteTask Borders Open just before Christmas. He also made the weekend's highest break with an effort of 291.
