Pro-Am Snooker - 2017 Vienna Snooker Open
4th-7th May 2017 / 15 Reds Koo Wien Snooker Club, Vienna, Austria

80 players of differing abilities, representing 16 different countries, travelled to Austria for the 7th Vienna Snooker Open Pro-Am. In an all pro final, David Grace beat Nigel Bond 5-2 to take the trophy and a 2,500 Euros first prize payday.

All competitors were initially split into 16 Round Robin groups of 5 with the group winners advancing straight to the Last 32 knockouts, whilst those finishing second and third making the preliminary KO round.

World Number 44 Grace, who finished the season on a high when he qualified for his Crucible debut, didn't drop a frame in making the KOs (as did Bond).

He then beat a brace of players from Bosnia & Herzegovina without reply, which was followed by victories against Florian Nuessle (Austria) 3-1 and Alexander Ursenbacher (Switzerland) 4-2 to book his berth in the final.

Bond, who came through consecutive deciding frame climaxes against Mark Joyce in the Quarters and Tom Ford in the Semis, started the final well with an 87 break to chalk up the opener. He then doubled his advantage in the next.

However, Grace went on a five frame winning streak, assisted with runs of 54 and 50, to become the 2017 champion.

The business end of the knockout stages were largely dominated by the professionals, although home hero Nuessle and former top tier player Bjorn Haneveer (Belgium) did beat Ross Muir (3-2) and Craig Steadman (3-1) respectively during the Last 16.

Bond shared the 500 Euros high break prize with Ford after efforts of 137 (both clearances) each.

This event had its inaugural edition in 2010 when it was won by Stephen Lee. Since then, Simon Bedford (2012), Mark King (2013 & 2014) and Peter Ebdon (2015 & 2016) have also claimed the title.
