DOTT DEFENDS PMK INVITATIONAL TITLE

Reaching the final for a third successive year, Graeme Dott made it back-to-back wins in the PMK Civil Engineering Ltd Invitational Pro-Am at the Minnesota Fats Snooker Club in Glasgow last weekend.

This 16-player annual event consists of invited cueists from the top tier of the sport being joined by amateur qualifiers in a Best-of-7 Frames Knock-Out format across two days. It was the fifth edition of the competition - the inaugural staging in 2014 was claimed by John Higgins.

Having been at the Crucible Theatre less than a fortnight ago, Dott returned to a setting closer to his home and pocketed the £2,000 first prize.

With professionals conceding 14 points per frame to amateur opposition, Dott began his tournament with a 4-2 victory over Scottish amateur Michael Collumb; aided with a trio of 70+ breaks in the process.

The 2006 World Champion repeated that scoreline against main tour rookie Chris Totten in the Last 8, and then secured a final berth when ousting Matthew Stevens 4-3 in the Semi-Finals.

His opponent in the final was Joe Swail, who had earlier in the weekend eliminated amateurs Aidan Owens and fellow Northern Irishman Patrick Wallace before defeating 2015 and 2016 winner Anthony McGill in the Last 4. Dott would retain the title, though, with a 4-0 success on Sunday evening.

Elsewhere in the competition, two-time ranking event winner McGill crafted the highest break of 131 during his Quarter-Final win over Michael Judge, and 11-times World Women's Champion Reanne Evans registered runs of 82, 67 and 65 in a 4-1 win against last year's Runner-up Eden Sharav in the First Round.
