WEST WIN!

Team West comprising of Mika Immonen (Captain), Darren Appleton, Shane Van Boening and Albin Ouschan are the inaugural Kings Cup winners after a thrilling trio of days in the Philippines.

The Filipino / Chinese Taipei combination of hosts Team East, Efren Reyes (Captain), Francisco Bustamante, Ko Pin Yi and Ko Pin Chung, fought hard, but could never gain an advantage after falling behind early on.

On a couple of occasions they did manage to draw level at 2-2 and 5-5, however, the Euro-American outfit would once again open a lead.

Going into the final day, Team West were 7-5 up and needing only three more points for the cup.

Despite losing the opening tie of Saturday, Appleton afterwards took a singles rubber over Ko Pin Chung, and then joined Immonen and SVB to take a trebles game, which put the West on the hill.

The next point was a unique 'quads' match which involved everyone. Amazingly, after going 4-0 down, Reyes' team were able to extend the event by extraordinarily fighting back to claim the fixture 5-4.

There was more delight and hope for the passionate home support when current World 9 and 10 Ball Champion Ko Pin Yi defeated Ouschan to bring the teams closer together yet again.

But the boys in blue eventually crossed the line in the trebles clash which followed, to win the overall encounter 10-8.
