PINCHES CLAIMS CHALLENGE EVENT 3
Barry Pinches overcame travel problems to win the third Challenge Tour event of the season in Riga, Latvia on Saturday.
A delayed flight from Luton Airport on Friday night meant the former PTC event winner didn't arrive in the Baltic region until the early hours. However, having received a bye in the opening round, the 48-year-old defeated Charlie Walters and event 2 finalist Mitchell Mann both 3-0 to reach the Semi-Finals.
Pinches then ousted Jamie Curtis-Barrett 3-2 and repeated the scoreline against Welsh Amateur Champion Jackson Page in the final to take the title.
The £2,000 that Pinches banks moves him up to fourth in the Order of Merit Rankings. At the end of the ten tournament series the top two will earn professional tour cards.
Event 1 winner Brandon Sargeant re-takes outright possession of top spot following another strong showing after making the Semi-Finals where he was pipped by Page in a deciding frame. David Grace, champion of the second event in Preston a few weeks ago, lost his opening match 3-0 to Curtis-Barrett.
Challenge Tour 4 will be held on the 27th and 28th August in Furth, Germany.
